Adult Hebrew Classes

Popular Hebrew teacher Shayna Nechamah Naveh offers the following Adult Hebrew classes at Beit Shalom.  A class needs a minimum of five registrants to run, so if you are interested in a class be sure to resister using the form following the class description.  Each class runs for twelve sessions. 

Instructor has over twenty years experience teaching ESL and HSL. Degree in Linguistics.  Coursework in Language Acquisition and Background in Jewish studies.

Pre-Beginning Hebrew

Twelve  Sessions

(No prerequisite)

The goal of these classes is to enable students to read Hebrew phonetically and to write the Hebrew Aleph Bet. Students will also receive an introduction to Hebrew language preparing them for any of the Beginning courses offered. Textbook required. The Chosen text, Teach Yourself to Read Hebrew, "is designed specifically for the needs of adult beginners. Hebrew letters and vowels are presented simply, enabling students to advance rapidly".

Beginning Biblical Hebrew

Twelve Sessions

(Students must read Hebrew phonetically prior to entrance)

The goal of these classes is to enable students to begin the journey towards reading and understanding the chumash (five books of Moses) in Hebrew, and to grasp the excitement of the realization that the goal is within their reach. Textbook required. The chosen text, "The First Hebrew Primer is a simple, straightforward guide to Biblical Hebrew. Thirty lessons provide enough information and practice to enable you, with the aid of a Hebrew-English dictionary, to understand most biblical texts."

Beginning Modern Conversational Hebrew

Twelve  Sessions

(Students must read Hebrew phonetically prior to entrance)

The goal of these classes is to enable students to begin to acquire a basic ability to converse in modern day Hebrew and to experience success in speaking about and understanding simple Hebrew topics. Textbook required. The chosen text, Hebrew with Pleasure without a teacher's help will be used for supplementary home study. Class will be oral but will utilize some written Hebrew cues.

Beginning Prayerbook Hebrew

The goal of these classes is to enable students to begin to understand the words found in Jewish prayerbooks and to experience the richness of Jewish prayer. Textbook required. The chosen text is Prayerbook Hebrew the Easy Way.
